Art Beat 2008

Stella Marie Soap Company will participating in Somerville's annual ArtBeat Festival this year! It takes place in Davis Square on Saturday July 19th (rain date: Sunday, July 20th).

From the Somerville Arts Council website:

"During the heat of summer, artists and festival goers converge on Davis Square, transforming it into one of the area's largest and most innovative arts festivals. ArtBeat includes music, performance art, craft vendors, dance, theater, food, and a whole more. Each year we develop a theme that serves as a launching point for artists and the community to express themselves."

This year's theme is : GREEN.

So, if you are a local yokel, and you want to enjoy a day of good times, come on down! We'll be offering the full product line! I'm going to put the whipped shea body butter on ice.

Celtics Won It All!

My heart is full and I'm crying like a baby.

I can hear the horns beeping outside. And all the people screaming in the streets.

Beautiful sounds, you guys.

Just glorious.

I am happiest for Paul Pierce. He's been our team captain through many difficult seasons. The Truth is marching on. The Truth is marching on.

Barring the results of a few tests, here is our new home!

An Artful Carrie

My boyfriend photographed a series of Carrie soap in various presentations. I liked this one best, as I think it ties in nicely with the narrative of the story.

He and his mother have co-authored a book titled Dirty Water: A Red Sox Mystery and they are in the process of getting advanced reader's copies out to various celebs and folks of interest. One of these folks is Stephen King. There has been some consideration to sending one of the Carrie soaps to Stephen as a thank you if/when he provides a testimonial for the book. Wouldn't that be the awesomest?

Spa Party Photos

Firstly - a huge shout out to Pam from Raynham for hosting a fabulous cocktail party on Friday night! She invited me over to sell some Stella Marie products and provided a hell of an awesome spread. (She's, like, a terrific cook ...) I regret that I didn't bring my camera, as it was a good sized crowd and it would have been nice to capture some candids. Preparing for parties requires so much coordination and effort, I almost always forget the camera.

On that note, here are a few photos from a recent spa party at my mother's house.

Mom's in the background there ...

Fizzy Bath Powder

Here are the new fizzy bath powders!

This is grapefruit, but they are also available in cucumber, pineapple, brown sugar, tangerine lime, coconut cream, and lavender.

I had an unfortunate incident with my keypad last night. (Hint: Try not to drink water or any other beverage while you are at the computer.) Thank heavens it was only water, but I am still waiting for the hardware to dry out. It's getting better, but I am still unable to use the space button and most of the bottom row of letters. There has been some progress, though. I am using my boyfriend's laptop in the meantime. This whole thing has set me back some, but my intention is to have my website fully updated before Game 5 of the NBA finals!

Shop Announcement

During the hot summer months, we will be unable to our Whipped Shea Body Butter. It is sensitive to high temperatures. However, as soon as September hits, it will be ready to make any voyage!

While I am announcing summer changes ... our bath bombs have made the transition to fizzing bath powders (available in cute frosted coffee bags). Heat and humidity are high in these parts during the summer and bath bombs, finicky as they are, don't like it. (They might like it better if I had central air.) Before the weekend is over, I will be making this formal on my website with pretty pictures and all :)

This Post is Rated G - For Gruesome

So, I am a big Stephen King fan. I'm a New Englander. We watch the Red Sox. We pahk ah cahs in Hahvid Yahd (Actually, I've never seen Harvard Yard. And I spend a good deal of my time in Cambridge. This weird phrase - disguised as a way to make fun of the way we talk - is completely inaccurate! If we could park in Harvard Yard, I'm sure it would be more than the average person could afford. I'd rather take the subway to Harvard Square - which isn't really a square - and taunt Harvard Yard from a distance.). Yes, we talk funny (My ex-husband's parents, who are from Pennsylvania, couldn't understand a word from Good Will Hunting. This concerned me at the time because I wondered how the hell they would be able to communicate with my family. I don't have this worry any more, for obvious reasons. And my boyfriend of the past 3 years is from New England, so he gets it, as does his family.).

Wow, I've really rambled, haven't I?

Right, Stephen King.

I've been looking for a way to honor him in soap. And I've found it.

Strawberries and cream scented soap with spatters and drips of blood.

Title: Carrie

I am debuting this soap at a Stella Marie spa party on Friday night. Friday the 13th!

(This is a limited edition soap.)

Good news: We accepted the counter-offer on the house! Hello, Providence!

Possible New Digs

I've been caught up in house hunting, preparing for a spa party next week and the NBA finals, which is the main reason for my spotty posting. If all goes well, Stella Marie will have a new home in August, in the greater Providence area. This is very exciting, because I will be able to devote the entire lower level of the house to the soap workshop. And there is a second kitchen (it's an in-law suite), so I can keep it separate from the food area.

The house needs some work - I won't kid ya. But, it's mainly cosmetic. The bones of the home are good and the important things are in place. There will be many painting and tiling projects ahead!

I also have a few product announcements to make by early next week.
